A SUSPENDED ward councillor was yesterday caught red-handed in the act of illegal sale of land by Kitwe district commissioner Chanda Kabwe.
Mr Kabwe was on his way to check on the Katoka Mema bridge which was washed away by rains when he pounced on the suspended councillor with an officer driving a GRZ vehicle and others with documents negotiating on how each of them would get the best from the sale.
Mr Kabwita and the unnamed man could not tell the DC what exactly they were doing on a plot they both denied owning and insisted that they had just met there to discuss something else.
While they denied ever engaging in the illegal sale of land, they lamentably failed to explain why they were found on a plot which did not belong to either of them.
Mr Kabwe warned both the suspended councillor and the unnamed man about dealing in illegal land and said they would be punished if they were found wanting.
“What are you doing here? Look at you, you can’t even explain what you are doing. You are saying you are not engaging in the illegal sale of land, but you can’t explain what you are doing.
‘‘You are saying you are just meeting here.
Are you telling me there are no other places where you can meet other than here?
“You are not supposed to be here, if this land is not yours then you are both trespassing; of all the places you would have met why here?” said Mr Kabwe.
