A HUGE public outcry has erupted among Kanyama residents over the poor state of roads in the area.

The residents have now petitioned the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) not to readopt the area Member of Parliament Colonel Gerry Chanda as its candidate in the forthcoming general elections.

The residents lamented that despite having made complaints to Col Chanda on several occasions, no action has been taken to address the problem.

They questioned where the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocated to Kanyama went since the area was still underdeveloped.

Ms Lucy Mambwe ,a resident, complained that the poor state of roads in the area was an inconvenience to both the motorists and pedestrians especially during the rainy season.

Ms. Mambwe charged that the situation had resulted in an increased number of accidents and damage to vehicles.

She accused the MP of having failed to come up with lasting solutions to tackle issues affecting the constituents, especially on the bad road network.

“Col Chanda has really failed; he is a bad leader and he should not expect people here to vote for him. The issue of roads has been outstanding. We have cried over this issue over a thousand times, but nothing has been done,” she said.

Another resident Jonas Siankopa said the poor state of roads in the constituency was unacceptable.

Mr. Siankopa attributed many road accidents in the area to the dilapidated roads as cars faced difficulties moving on the roads, especially after rains.

“It leaves a lot to be desired from the MP, because bad roads are actually causing accidents here,” he said.

He appealed to PF not to consider readopting Col Chanda as candidate for Kanyama constituency in the 2016 elections.

“The PF must not make a mistake of adopting Col Chanda in the forthcoming elections because the man has done nothing for the constituency; he is just embarrassing President Edgar Lungu and the entire PF,” Mr. Siankopa said.

Col Chanda could not be immediately reached for a comment.
