THE newly launched Democratic Front (DF) has with immediate effect been deregistered.
Government has announced that the registration of the DF led by estranged Matero Member of Parliament (MP) Miles Sampa had been revoked and cancelled with immediate effect for failure by its leadership to change ownership of the party from its initial owner David Chanda to Mr Sampa.
Home Affairs Minister Davis Mwila announced the revocation and cancellation of the registration certificate for the DF at a media briefing yesterday.
Mr Mwila said the committee that was constituted to investigate the ownership of the DF established that there was negligence and carelessness on the part of the previous owners of the party.
Mr Mwila said it had been recommended that the certificate of registration for the DF be immediately withdrawn from Mr Sampa who became leader of the Orange Alliance which is an amalgamation of the DF, Fourth Revolution (4R) of Erick Chanda and National Restoration Party (NAREP) of Elias Chipimo. Mr Mwila said following recommendation from the Registrar of Societies to revoke and cancel the registration of the DF, Government had moved to deregister the party and ceased to exist.
Mr Mwila said both Mr Sampa and Mr Chanda who have been claiming ownership of the party have since been informed of the decision by Government stating that the DF had been deregistered as prescribed by the law.
He said the leaders of the DF were free to appeal to the courts if they were aggrieved by the decision taken by Government.
Mr Sampa and Mr Chanda could not be immediately reached for a comment.
