Cosmos frustrate high-flying Aces

Collins Mbesuma’s side, Mpumalanga Black Aces, was left frustrated, after they were held to 0-0 draw by Jomo Cosmos at Olen Park on Tuesday evening.

The Chipolopolo striker was completely shut out of the match by tight markings from Sherwin  Naicker.

Aces began the encounter with three defenders, Ashraf Hendricks, Eddie Ngalo and Vincent Kabola, with Bryce Moon and Aubrey Modiba operating as wing backs.

Both goalkeepers were called into action inside the first five minutes, as Mbesuma’s efforts from distance were all dnied, while Shu-Aib produced a fine save at the other end.

The home side fashioned their first opening after the 30-minute mark when Onassis Mntambo went close with an effort from distance. Aces nearly broke the deadlock five minutes before the halftime break, as Moon and Lebogang Manyama combined well to set up Aubrey Modiba, who headed just wide of the mark.

The score remained the level at 0-0 at the halftime break.

Aces were presented with a chance to take the lead in the 61st minute when Manyama managed to create space in the box with only Naicker to beat, however the winger saw his effort blocked.-PSL
