UPND’s cadres riotous behaviour case put off

A CASE in which 12 suspected UPND cadres were arrested for participating in unlawful procession and riotous behaviour with Chongwe Member of Parliament Sylvia Masebo has been adjourned by the Lusaka Magistrates Court.

The matter was adjourned after defence counsel Martha Mushipe applied to have the case adjourned so that her team could study the indictment with the possibility of  raising preliminary issues.

In reply, the State said they had no objection to te adjournment the case but their only concern was that the matter had been on the cause list for some time during which the defence had ample time to study the indictment.

Senior Resident Magistrate Jenniffer Bwalya granted the application to the defence and adjourned the case to March 2 for possible commencement of trial.

The MP and her supporters were intercepted and arrested on Independence Avenue in September last year after they attempted to walk from Lusaka Magistrates Court complex to the law-makers home in Ibex Hill.
