HAKAINDE Hichilema’s apology to the Post is a sign that he is scared of getting negative coverage from them and M’membe should not be fooled into thinking he wants peace with him, says National Revolution Party (NRP) president Cosmo Mumba.
Dr Mumba, who was commenting on the recent apology by the United Party for National Development leader to the Post newspaper, said Mr Hichilema was trying to escape unprofessional reporting which the Post was known for.
He said the Post should not be fooled by Mr Hichilema’s apology as it was not genuine and only meant to get him coverage.
‘‘The Post should not be taken for fools as the apology by HH is a total blackmail; he is basically trying to use the Post into getting coverage during elections,’’ he said.
The NRP leader also said that Mr Hichilema should reach out to people he wanted to collaborate with as the Post was known to be a media house that was unpredictable.
He said there were many media houses in the country that provide fair and balanced coverage unlike the Post.
‘‘The Post is not the only media house that gives news to people; if anything there are many media outlets out there that are based on principle and fair coverage unlike the Post newspaper,’’ he said.
Dr Mumba said Mr Hichilema’s apology was fake as he had too proud to apologize to anyone for his mistakes.
He also added that that it was clear to everyone that Mr Hichilema was desperate for coverage and hence decided to ride on Fred M’membe’s back for marketing purposes.
‘‘What HH is simply telling the Post is that ‘I am sorry please start marketing me’ and that is all he wants from them.’’
He claimed that Mr Hichilema and UPND had received little media coverage and had now resorted to lobbying for attention.
