A HOUSEWIFE told a Lusaka Local Court that her husband has lost love for her because she is thin and he wants to marry a fat woman.
This is in a case in which Namutula Singute, 23, of Makeni sued her husband, Kennedy Mukweto, 28, a garden boy for divorce.
The two got married in 2012 and have one child.
Singute told Senior Court Magistrate Daniel Phiri sitting with Magistrates Ackim Phiri and Sarah Nyendwa at Kanyama Local Court that all was well until 2015 when Mukweto got himself a girlfriend and sent her to the village for business.
She explained that Mukweto later started sleeping in his clothes and that when they sat to resolve the matter he admitted doing so because she denied him conjugal rights each time she was upset.
Singute said that on January 12, he wrote her a divorce letter after people rebuked him for leaving her alone to live in Linda compound when she was sick.
In cross-examination, Singute said that a neighbor told her that her husband was bringing a girlfriend in the house.
Mukweto admitted bringing his fat girlfriend home whom he wanted to marry because Singute was a thin woman.
In defence, Mukweto said that problems started in 2012 because Singute spent most of her time chatting with neighbours and when he called her to come home, she would get angry with him.
Mukweto further said that he wrote Singute a divorce letter because she did not have respect for him and failed to do normal household chores.
Magistrate Daniel Phiri said that problem in the marriage was due to inadequate sex and the two had been on separation for a long period.
He granted the couple divorce ordering Mukweto to compensate Singute with K3000 with initial payment of K1000 followed by monthly installments of K300 and to be paying child maintenance fee of K250 per month. Property acquired together to be shared equally.
