ACTING President Inonge Wina has called for peace ahead of the August 11 general elections.
And Mrs Wina has called on Patriotic Front (PF) members countrywide to avoid discriminating against members from the opposition political parties joining the PF.
Speaking on arrival at Solwezi airport yesterday, Mrs Wina said President Edgar Lungu does not want to go for a re-run but ensure that there is an outright win in the August 11 elections.
She said this was the reason why PF members must embrace members from opposition political parties joining the ruling party.
”This is the desire of our party president Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu that he is not looking forward to a re-run but he wants to be President of Zambia-elect in the first attempt,” she said.
Mrs Wina, who is also Minister of National Planning said North-Western Province was a blessed region because of the abundant natural resources the area was endowed with.
She said the PF government would ensure that it involved the local people in planning, of developmental projects because they were beneficiaries of development and that Government would endeavour to engage traditional leaders in matters of development because they were custodians of land.
Mrs Wina also said Government would ensure infrastructure development was enhanced in the North-Western Province especially in the energy sector, stating that the province would be connected to the national electricity grid before the end of 2016.
‘’This programme is aimed at ensuring the province attracts more investment apart from the current investments,” she said.
And North-Western Province PF chairman Emmanuel Chihili said people were being attracted to join PF because of the good leadership qualities of President Lungu.
Meanwhile, out-going North-Western Province minister Dawson Kafwaya said the people of North-Western Province were happy that a good number of development projects had been implemented in the province since the PF came into power.
‘’North Western Province has witnessed massive infrastructure development since the coming of the PF into Government,” he said.
Mr Kafwaya thanked President Lungu for according him an opportunity to serve in his government as North-Western Province minister and for re-appointing him as Deputy Minister for Local Government and Housing.
