As indicated in the first part of this discussion, a man or woman of God, is a believer in our Lord God Almighty Jehovah Jireh and in His Son Jesus Christ.
He must be a believer who obeys Gods commands and that of His Son Christ Jesus.
As the Bible says in 1st Timothy 6: 11 -12. “But you man of God, avoid all these things. Strive for righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Run your best in the race of faith and win eternal life for yourself, for it was this life that God called you when you firmly professed your faith before many witnesses.
We have already defined righteousness as being free from blame of wrong doing. It is therefore godliness. According to St Paul in the above scripture, he emphasizes that to our behaviour, which must be righteous, we should add the following elements:
Faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Faith can be defined as having complete trust in God, Yahweh Jehovah Jireh.
In our preaching, teaching and the miracles that we perform in the name of Jesus Christ it is important to hold firmly to our faith. We are not to think even for one second that we are able to accomplish these things by our power, but by the power and authority of our Lord Jesus Christ the Messiah, the Son of God, who first preached the Good News.
In Galatians 3:8, the scripture says: “what is more, the scriptures looked forward to this time when God would declare the Gentiles to be righteous because of their faith”. God proclaimed this good news to Abraham long ago when He said “All nations will be blessed through you”. So all who put their faith in Christ share the same blessing Abraham received because of his faith”. Truly speaking, the scripture therefore declares that, it is through faith that a righteous person has life.
As we strive for righteousness, we must remember to be faithful to the Lord, because it is written in Galatians 3: 11, that only the person who is put right with God through faith shall live. That is the righteous shall receive salvation. And salvation is the reason for our faith. Faith can be likened to salt, which must be sprinkled to food to make it tasty.
All good works done to the glory of God must be sprinkled with faith. It is faith that pleases God according to Galatians 3:24, all believers are made right through faith. Faith is having full reliance only on God, to have our loyalty only to Him as we spend time to pray, praise and worship to our God Most High. It is out of faith that we become obedient to the commands of God, these commands can be coming to us even in our daily life, not only of what is written in the scriptures. God’s assignments to His people are faithfully received and acted upon according to His instructions.
It would be difficult to see these assignments without faith. Our God may desire that we go out of our usual residence, go and preach the word to distant places, such places may not be among our favorites, and yet we have to go and preach the word. We may want to resist to go because of our possessions, but we have to oblige because we have to be obedient to the commands of the Lord God Almighty.
A man of God, who is dedicated to serving God, should not do anything that may be in confrontation with his faith. Faith should always be seen in practical terms. Faith without works is dead. Not only works, but good works. It is by works of faith, that we shall find rest when we die, as good works will follow us. Rev. 14:13.
We may have to show our faith by supporting other congregations to complete their church buildings if need be. As men and women of God, our faith can be demonstrated in recognizing the blessings that come upon us and other believers, thank God and appreciate His mercies upon His people.
This recognition really pleases God. It is a show of our faith in the Lord, since we know that good things only come from our Lord Father God Almighty Jehovah Jireh. To be thankful to God for His blessings upon us is to recognize His divine power upon all those who believe that with God, there is nothing impossible.
By our faith, God is capable of doing anything in our lives Mathew 9:29. It is written that if we have faith we shall receive Mathew 21:22. We are therefore strongly encouraged to strengthen our faith as believers in our Father Lord God Almighty and His Son, Christ Jesus, our Saviour and Messiah Acts 16:5. as did believers of the early church. To grow and experience the joy of our faith should be our ultimate aim as believers. (Philippians 1 – 15).
Because we are let free from sin by faith, we should therefore strive to strengthen our faith, let it grow in our hearts in order to keep honouring God by our own actions and by our faith keep on pleasing God Almighty.
Love is another element which must be possessed by a man or woman of God. Love must be expressed at all times and among all people, and this must be done by all believers in God and His Son Jesus Christ.
This is a command which must be obeyed. Love one another a person of God should have love expressed at all times and among all people. Love is the ultimate expression of God’s loyalty purity and mercy extended toward His people, to be reflected in human relationships of brotherly concern, marital fidelity and adoration of God, a beloved person.
In other words, love can be interpreted as a feeling of a strong personal attachment induced by sympathetic understanding or by ties of kinship. Love is strong liking, fondness, good-will as love of learning. Tender and passionate affection, sweet heart.
If we used all the words that define love in our daily life, hate can be easy to remove among the Christian fraternity, let alone in the whole world. Rife nor wars can be mentioned in the nations of the world.
Believers would live in total harmony. Actions of love should start among family members, extended to our fellow christens without bias. Deut. 1: 17 and Mathew 22: 16. Playing favourites is not Gods’ wish. Even Jesus Christ the Son of God did not play favourites. No one is free or has the right to play favourites in a church of God. As a show of love, every kind of decision must be played impartially, in a church of God first and in the community and the nation.
To love is to serve and care. Our utmost love must be to God. Deut. 6: 5 says “And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your strength”. Another strict commandment on love comes from our Lord Jesus Christ which says “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind!! And he added “Love your neighbor as you love yourself” Mathew 22: 37-39 and in Leviticus 19:18.
To love our Lord God Almighty is to serve Him in every way possible. To have love, is to heed to the call by our Lord God Almighty to the church, to look after the needy in society, to look after the orphans, vulnerable people, like widows, the sick and the elderly.
To support those facing hardships due to natural calamities or calamites that are caused by humanity. These are disasters that cause people to feel stranded, be sent in a state of panic, or just lacking care family members.
To love is to hold dear. To feel a lovers passion/devotion or tenderness for, to experience desire. Love is to like or desire actively. Loving man or woman of God does not tire in expressing love for God and for humanity. Leadership often involves reaction, if we want to react with instincts, consistent with God’s will that is with the love of God, then we must develop habits of obedience to God.
Consistence to God is best developed in times of less stress that is when we are not in situations that will cause us panic and then be forced to take wrong decisions. We should develop a habit of obeying God when faced with a problem which requires our intervention. This intervention should be full of love and so pleasing to God Himself.
In providing a service to God and humanity, we should always try to use or recognize the talents of other people. This will show that we trust them and again love them.
As men and women of God, it is imperative that our actions must remain an inspiration to others. To love is always for good intentions. Less than that is not any more love. It either lust, greed or self-selfness. The last three elements require self-control in order to expel them from our hearts as believers in our Lord God Almighty and His Son Jesus Christ the Messiah.
Endurance is another important element for a man/woman of God to possess. Endurance is the ability to withstand hardship or adversity. During this period of endurance, we are expected to perform Gods’ functions without complaining and arguing.
Philippians 2:14. This is necessary so that we can remain pure, innocent as God’s perfect children, who live in a world of corrupt and sinful people. Jesus Christ himself is a good example of great endurance especially towards his arrest before he was put on the cross and died on the Calvary. Mathew 26:36-75; 27: 1-65. Disciples of Jesus Christ in their obedience to the commands of Jesus Christ (Mathew 28: 19-20) in preaching the word, endured a lot of atrocities from the opponents of the teachings of Christ, which they witnessed without fear in all places of Judea and beyond.
Endurance, involved early missionaries suffering whipping “Acts 16:16-34 imprisonment Acts 12: 1-25 and stoning Acts 7: 56-69. But men and women of God can endure many atrocities in the course of their duty for the Lord, God Almighty Most High.
A woman/man of God should be of gentle character. Not quarrelsome or sour temper should be welcoming to and able to show loving kindness to visitors in the home or those we meet elsewhere, full of compassion for those needing care and support in every way possible.
To endure is to persevere in all the suffering as we serve our Lord Christ Jesus the Messiah without complaining or arguing. A person of God will let God speak through him/her 1st Kings 17:24.
In Colossians 3: 5-11, the Bible says “so put to death the sinful earthly things lurking with you. Having nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust and desires.
Our righteousness, faith, love, endurance and our sober and gentle character must all point to the glory of our Father, Lord God Almighty Jehovah Jireh, the Most High. Amen.
