North-Western Province out-going Minister Dawson Kafwaya has expressed displeasure over Heriot Properties the contractor contracted by government to construct the Solwezi City Mall.
Mr Kafwaya said the negative reception and attitude by the contractor was unacceptable and would not be tolerated by government.
“If the contractor can disrespect me like this, how are you treating your workers our people working on this project” he said.
He said government was concerned with the welfare of workers working with contractors on various projects and would not tolerate any unruly contractors who ill treated workers at the site.
“I don’t want to hear any complaints of mistreatment from the people employed here as government we will not hesitate to deal with you as a contractor” he said.
Speaking when he visited the development site the out going minister said he was displeased with the pace at which works on the shopping mall were moving.
He said he is hopeful that the contractor will complete works as scheduled.
And Heriot properties site engineer Johan Bonman disclosed that the contractor was in fact four weeks ahead of schedule.
He said works on the US$60 million project would be complete on schedule.
Mr Bonman assured the minister that workers were being treated within the expectations.
“ We have about 200 locally employed workers who we are working with and helping enhance their skills that can be used outside this site for them to earn a living” he said.
Mr Bonman said the workers were being treated fairly however misunderstanding and friction was normal as it was in every working environment.
