Solwezi Municipal Council will this year spend about K5,500,000 on ward development, says council public relations officer Thandiwe Tembo.

Last year, the local authority spent about K 3,200,000 on various projects in all the 22 wards in the district amounting to about K 150,000 per ward.

Ms Tembo told the Daily Nation in an interview that the funds were meant to take development in the outlying areas in the district and not just on the Central Business District.

“This year each ward will be allocated about K 250,000 which is an increase of about k100,000 from last year’s K 150,000 per ward,” she said.

Ms Tembo said the council also spent about 15 percent of the allocations of the funds on activities related to HIV/AIDS in the district.

She said under last year’s funds the council undertook various projects such as the drilling and equipping of boreholes, grading of feeder roads in chiefdoms, construction of culverts, and construction of maternity wings in rural health centres which did not have such facilities.

‘’All this is meant to improve the living standards of our people in the district,” Ms Tembo said.
