GOVERNMENT and the African Development Bank yesterday signed an aide memoire as a preparatory milestone towards the hosting of the African Development Bank (AfDB) annual meeting to be held in the country in the last week of May this year.
The agenda of the AfDB would include energy and climate change.
ADB head of mission Olivier Pinzi signed the agreement on behalf of the bank while Secretary to the Treasury Mr Fredson Yamba signed on behalf of Zambia
The agreement, which was presented at a signing ceremony at Ministry of Finance, was the second between the two after the initial one ushered in a working framework to organize the huge event.
Speaking during the ceremony, Mr Pinzi stated that the signing of the memoire came after a week of assessment by the mission on the preparations towards the event.
He said moving forward the objectives of the mission shall be to access further aspects bordering on conference facilities, accommodation and contract signing, among others.
Mr Pinzi further disclosed that the logo of the event has been done.
‘’By March this year, the mission will visit the country again to access the progress,’’ the head of mission said.
And Mr Yamba expressed delight at the productive work of the mission during their one-week visit.
‘’On behalf of Government, I wish to thank you for your diligence and commitment to working with the Government and further reassure you that we will honor our commitments and deliver to the delegates a successful meeting’’ Mr Yamba said.
He called for a speedy and transparent procurement process towards the conference facilities. And speaking after the signing ceremony the ADB country programme officer Phillip Boahen said the meeting which would be attended by 3,000 delegates would put Zambia on the international map and would also be a good marketing platform.
The aid memoir originated in July 2015 after Government and the bank signed the memorandum of understanding for the hosting of the 2016 annual meeting.
The second aid memoir reasserts working efforts between the banking group and the Zambia in hosting the 2016 annual AfDB meeting.
