Police on the Copperbelt have detained People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president George Mpombo’s son in connection with the murder of 17 year old Ruth Phiri.

Ruth who went missing recently and Mr Mpombo’s son was suspected to have been behind her abduction was found buried in a shallow grave in Ndola.

Copperbelt Provincial Police Commissioner Charity Katanga said Mr. Mpombo’s son who earlier faced suspicion of abduction has been slapped with murder and was currently in police detention.

“Police have just found the body of Ms Phiri which was buried in a shallow grave and part of the body was bitten off, I don’t know whether it was the work of dogs. So the police are now at the scene and the offence is now going to change to murder.” said Ms. Katanga.

Ms. Katanga said Mr. Mpombo’s son was also found in possession of a firearm which has since been confiscated by the police.

On Wednesday, Police detained Mr. Mpombo’s son on to assist with investigations on the disappearance of Ms Phiri who was last seen on 11th January around 17:00 hours with him.
