Matero MP Miles Sampa has withdrawn his FAZ vice president candidature stating that he will not be available for any post during the elective FAZ AGM in March because politics and sports do not mix.

And Sampa who has resigned from the PF says there are many reasons why councillors will re-elect FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya at the AGM set for Moba Hotel in Kitwe.

Sampa says the reasons to vote Kalusha for another four years mandate were too numerous.

In pledging his club Matero United’s vote for the 1988 African footballer of the year, Sampa said: “As for Matero United, our vote is on Kalusha Bwalya as President for reasons that are too many to mention.”

On his vice presidential candidature, the former Finance deputy minister said: “It came to my attention that some affiliates were suggesting that I look to the Veep position.

I thank them for the thought and confidence but as they say, Politics and football don’t mix. Given that I am still very active in politics, I shall continue to contribute to the development of the game outside FAZ and not inside. I am therefore not available for any post for now.”

Others who have received massive support from councillors are Richard Kazala who is set to be elected vice president. Councillors feel Kazala has better credentials and is best suited to be Kalusha’s vice.

Others who are contesting the vice presidency are Mofya Chisala. The others who are expected to file nominations for the vice presidency but may pull out because of lack of or dwindling support are Cephas Katongo and Pivot Simwanza.

Among committee members, Happie Munkondya is set for re-election and Jeff Chipilingu with Lee Kawanu should also retain their seats.

Blackwell Siwale and Elijah Chileshe popularly known as Shenko have been well received and are also set to win as new committee members while Rix Mweemba is a runaway favourite to continue as Treasurer.

The others eyeing the Treasurery portfolio are Kelvin Mutafu who has fallen out with councillors and now hangs around Andrew Kamanga and Facebook councillors. The other one rumoured to eye the Treasurery is Nkana Treasurer Munasha.

Simwanza, who has been quietly courting councillors as vice president has continued to see his support dwindling with a majority of those supporting him asking him to just recontest as a committee member.
