LUPANDO MWAPE POLITICALLY CONFUSED, SAYS PF

Former Vice President Lupando Mwape is politically confused and does not know which political party he wanted to support, Patriotic Front (PF) deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri has charged.

But Mr  Mwape has said he would not want to be drawn into the petty politics of the PF.

Mrs Phiri, who was reacting to the defection to UPND of Mr Mwape and former Gender minister in president Rupiah Banda’s government Rose Banda, said politicians who were not sure where they stood should quit active politics

“Lupando Mwape is politically confused and does not know which political party he wants to support;  just recently he vowed to work with President Lungu. Now he is with the UPND; all he is trying to do is to use politics to sustain himself,’’ she said.

Mrs  Mumbi claimed if the former vice president had any leadership qualities they would have been spotted when he was in government.

‘‘What political value does Mr Lupando Mwape have which he will add to the UPND? He did not do anything when he was vice president because that is when we should have seen his leadership qualities,’’ she added.

Mrs Phiri also said politics was not a game where people could jump from one party to another without concrete reasons.

‘‘What these politicians should know is that it is better to leave politics when the people are still appreciating you, not following anywhere,’’ Mrs Mumbi said.

She added that the UPND was desperate for members due to lack of support and was ready to welcome even ‘‘valueless people just to congest the party’’.

But Mr Mwape said he would not want to be drawn into the petty politics of the ruling PF.

He said he had never at any point gone public to declare his partnership with the Patriotic Front.

The former vice president said he had only worked with the United Party Independence Party (UNIP) and the MMD and that UPND was the third party he had joined.

‘’ UPND is the third party I am joining in my life, and I went public, when did I go public about PF? When president Sata died there was a question of a successor and I was speaking in Bemba on Chintobentobe  to say when a person dies in a family we pick from the same family and we do not go out to pick from another, you saw MMD MP’s campaign for UPND others broke to campaign for PF that did not mean that they didn’t know what they were doing,” he said. Mr Mwape said his mind was made up to support the UPND and the PF had nothing to say against him.
