THE delay to complete the long awaited bridge in Lusaka’s Chunga Township has angered residents in the area.
They lamented that the bridge which was being constructed by the Zambia National Service (ZNS) had taken long to be completed, and have demanded for a quick completion of the project to prevent loss of lives.
MsTowela Mbewe observed that the area was becoming risky, especially for children who have to cross the nearby stream to get to school.
She said children’s’ lives had been lost due to lack of a bridge during the rainy season after being swept a strong current.
“The area is becoming unsafe especially for children; children’s lives have been lost here, because there is no bridge. The construction of the bridge by ZNS has taken long to take off ; we are very worried about our children,” She said.
Another resident, Mr Amos Mwenda appealed to the council to intervene to prevent loss of lives in the stream.
Mr Mwenda said local authority’s intervention was the only solution, adding that the council should quickly make sure that the bridge was done.
“I would like to appeal to the council to intervene and make sure that the construction of the bridge is fully completed, I believe that if the council is to intervene the bridge will be completed in good time,” he said.
