THE Patriotic Front (PF) must remain united and peaceful under the leadership of President Edgar Lungu and must avoid squabbling over petty differences if it has to solidly move forward, Nchanga Member of Parliament Wylbur Simmusa has advised.
Mr Simuusa said it was worrying that the PF seem not to have reconciled despite President Lungu consistently calling for forgiveness, peace, unity and harmony in the party.
Mr Simuusa said currently, some PF members were busy peddling lies against selected members of the party which he said was not good for the ruling party and advised that it was imperative for the PF leadership to realize that only unity was going to lead the party to victory.
He said the PF as the party in power could not afford to be squabbling and preaching hate messages against itself because there was every reason for the ruling party to stay in power having embarked on massive developmental and economic expansion programmes.
Mr Simuusa has called on all party members to heed President Lungu’s advice to preach peace and unity in the PF, stating that the Head of State needed the support of all party members if he had to continue providing leadership to the party and the nation.
He told the Daily Nation yesterday that party leaders should be wary of some party members who were allegedly pushing an agenda of demonizing other members of the party so that they could be hounded out of the ruling party.
Mr Simuusa said those who were bringing petty issues in the party and peddling lies against other members should stop because such was only weakening the PF ahead of the general elections in August this year.
“I have always been consistent about what we need to do in our party. We need unity, reconciliation, love and harmony. We should heed the advice of His Excellency, President Edgar Lungu about the need to reconcile and remain united.
‘‘We should be wary of some party members whose agenda is to demonize other members. Those bringing petty issues in the party and peddling lies should not be entertained because those are the people who are destroying the party.
There are a lot of lies being peddled and we cannot maintain peace and unity if we are going to continue perpetrating hate messages against ourselves,” Mr Simuusa said.
Mr Simuusa said 2016 was an election year and it was critical for the PF to put the past behind and move forward as a united family resolved to continue serving Zambia.
He stated that Zambians were expecting the PF as the party in Government to be extremely united and strong because the ruling party had the mandate to deliver the best of what it promised the people.
Mr Simuusa said some loyal PF members were being accused of belonging to the Rainbow Party and yet they had never thought of ever associating with the party whose ideological mantra they did not clearly understand.
“There are some of our members who are pushing an agenda of weakening the party by linking other members to political parties such as the Rainbow.
Other members who are loyal to the party and President Lungu are being accused of being members of the cartel. We love the PF and President Lungu and we must put a stop to such destructive speculation,” Mr Simuusa said.
