United Party for National Development (UPND) in Solwezi district has warned its members against early campaigns being conducted by some individuals who wish to contest parliamentary and local government seats on the party’s ticket in the August 11 2016 general elections.
Speaking during a press briefing, district information and publicity secretary Nobby Mwanza said party members interested in contesting in the general elections should exercise caution as they solicit for support from various party organs.
“The committee has noted with concern some clandestine activities by some individuals with intentions to contest on the UPND ticket.
The party has not yet started the adoption process, we therefore wish to warn all aspiring candidates both at parliamentary and local government to desist from such activities,’’Mr Mwanza said.
He said the process of calling for applications and subsequent adoption of candidates is guided by the party constitution.
“The act is against the party electoral rules and individuals involved in such activities risk being disqualified, no two ways about it,” he said.
And Mr Mwanza has warned members against issuing media statements on behalf of the party in the district without the blessings from party authorities.
He said the trend is unbecoming and if left unchecked could cause acrimony in the party.
“Let me also take this opportunity to warn our members with a tendency of issuing media statements without authority, if found punitive measures shall be applied on such an individuals,”Mr Mwanza said.
