A 22-year-old  barman of Kalikiliki compound has been charged with illegally trading in liquor after he was found selling 15 bottles of small spirits.

Vincent Kasongo appeared before Magistrate Soche Zulu who was sitting at the Fast Track Courts at Lusaka Civic Centre.

Facts before the court were that Kasongo on December 19, 2015 was found in possession of  15 bottles of small spirits for sale. Kasongo admitted the charge and pleaded for the court’s leniency since he was a first offender.

Delivering the sentence, Magistrate Zulu warned young people against illegal activities which would land them in court as it dented their image in the society. He convicted and fined him  K600 or 21 days simple imprisonment in default.

And Jacob Banda, appearing before Magistrate Zulu, admitted driving a public service vehicle, a Toyota Hiace minibus without a  licence.

The court heard that Banda, 33, on December 26, 2015 was found driving the minibus  on the Great East Road without authority.

He was fined K600 or in default one month simple imprisonment.

Meanwhile, 67-year-old Tito Damba Ntambalika of Mtendere township was fined K50 or in default 14 days simple imprisonment for illegally trading in Chibuku.
