GBM propagating tribalism in Northern Province-Fr Bwalya

UPND vice president for administration Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba has been propagating tribalism in Northern Province by alleging that President Edgar Lungu has denied Bembas the post of a Republican Vice President, says PF central committee member Fr Frank Bwalya.

Fr Bwalya said Mr Mwamba’s motive was to make Bembas vote for UPND in 2016 so that he could be rewarded with vice president’s post on tribal lines.

In an open letter to Mr Mwamba, Fr Bwalya said it was not his intention to delve into issues of tribalism raised by the ex-Kasama lawmaker.

“My aim is just to expose the folly of your reasoning,” Fr Bwalya says.

He observed that ever since Mr Bwalya joined UPND and got himself the post of vice president for administration he had been propagating tribalism in Northern Province.

“Your message has been that President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has denied Bembas a republican vice president. You have been saying openly that Mr Lungu should have appointed a Bemba as Republican Vice President,

“ Further, you have been saying that UPND leader Mr Hakainde Hichilema has demonstrated regard for Bembas by appointing you, a Bemba, as his vice president,” read part of the letter.

Fr Bwalya said now that the “running mate” clause had been adopted in the new Republican Constitution he (Bwalya) would want to see if indeed Mr Hichilema would adopt him as his running mate so that he could become Republican Vice President.

“If indeed Mr Hichilema will adopt you as his running mate because you are Bemba then those few doubting Thomases who have doubted our position that tribe plays a big role in the politics of the UPND leader will finally agree with us,” Fr Bwalya says

He told Mr Mwamba that since he had also accused President Lungu of giving positions to people who joined PF late, people were patiently waiting to see if Mr Hichilema would adopt him (GBM) as his running mate having joined UPND late than many senior  UPND members including the likes of Mr Gary Nkombo, Dr Canicious Banda, former First lady Mrs Maureen Mwanawasa and Mrs Mutale Nalumango.
