Police officer, 3 others face theft charges

A 48-year-old police officer of Lusaka’s Emmasdale Police Station and three others who were arrested and charged for stealing cash and various items valued at K 156, 800, 00 have pleaded not guilty in the Lusaka Magistrates Court.

Joseph Nyambazana denied the charge when he took plea along with his three co-accused before Magistrate Lameck Mwale.

Nyambazana’s co-accused are Rajic Cargo Services Limited Administration Assistant Constance Himanje 31, Business Development Manager Newton Ng’ambi 31 and Musa Muwowo 47.

Nyambazana and his co-accused told magistrate Lameck Mwale that they understood the charge against them but denied committing the offence adding that the allegations were just meant to damage their good names in society.

Nyambazana and his co-accused allegedly committed the offence of theft on November 12, 2015.

In count one, it is alleged that Himanje and N’gambi jointly and while acting together  as Administration Assistant  and Business Development Manager did steal US$ 9.150 cash, K 1, 040 ,00  two Computers, two HP LaserJet Printers altogether valued at  K156, 800, 00 the property of the said employer.

In counts two Nyambazana and Muwowo while acting together did steal  US$ 9.150 cash, K 1, 040 ,00  two Computers, two HP LaserJet Printers altogether valued at  K156, 800, 00 the property of the said employer. The matter was adjourned to January 11, 2016 for commencement of trial.
