It’s no partying time for retrenched miners

Allow me space in your paper to commend Mopani Copper Mines for paying the retrenched miners , ex-gracia and Christmas bonuses as part of the  their retrenchment packages.

However it is quite dismaying that these men went on shopping and drinking sprees as reported in the media recently.

It being the last cash to be given for their years of  hard work, if not well managed may lead to destitution.

That Government has identified land in Lufwanyama for these men which  must be seen a signal that they must venture into productive farming.

I am sure Government will not give these men farming inputs since it is assumed that they have been paid their  dues.

Before retrenching miners the mining firm must have held exit interviews by the Human Resource Department to help our hard working miners make good use of their packages.

As things stand, these will attract a lot of “friends” who will just drink with them and then dessert them after the cash is finished.

Can someone help our miners; we don’t want them to be complaining to the Government with the famous “Boma iyanganepo “ syndrome.
