RESIDENTS of Limulunga in Mongu have urged the government to continue initiating developmental projects in Western province to improve their standard of living.
Mukeya Liwena a resident of the Limulunga Royal Palace said President Lungu should continue the plans that the late President Sata which he abandoned.
He said it was Western province was one of the least developed provinces. Mr Liwena said Mr Michael Sata had promised the people of his province a lot of development which the current president should ensure he delivers. ‘’ Our province is one of the least developed provinces because all the plans that president Sata had for this province died with him, President Lungu has abandoned most of them’’ he said.
He said sports was one of the largest form of business in the country and Western province could not contribute much to the glory of the sports in Zambia because they lacked infrastructure which the late president promised to construct.
He said it was sad that the land allocated to the sports stadium had just grown shrubs without any sign of construction.
‘’We are not able to contribute to the development of sports of the country because we lack infrastructure which the Late president promised us but has been abandoned and now the land just grows shrubs, this is not good, on the other hand universities have been constructed in other provinces and we have been left out, this is the reason most people do not go to school here’’ he said.
He further explained that even though all this was not fulfilled, the government had worked hard I improving roads adding that roads in Mongu were in the past very bad and dangerous making it very hard for trading systems.
Induna of Barotseland Royal Establishment Induna Mwinamenya said the province had said the area had become impoverished and was happy that the government had considered investing in growing cashew nut. He said the fish that the province was renowned for had become extinct as it was the only source of income the people had. He added that he province had exhausted its survival options. ‘’ We are happy that that the government has remembered as here in Mongu and we have welcomed the investment in the cashew nut scheme, we would like to urge the government to continue remembering us and including us in developmental projects as we do not have anything here in Western province, even the fish we used to be known for are all finished, we have eaten them’’ he said.
He also appealed to the government to repair the Kwanda, which he described as the home of every Litunga for a month.
He said the people of Limulunga would appreciate if the government roofed the house as it had been enshrined with value.
‘’ I would like to urge the government to consider rehabilitating the Kwanda, it is a very important house for us, it is a home of every Litunga for a month, we need it to be roofed as the rains are now approaching’’ he said.
