ZAMBIA Hockey Association (ZHA) has declared Lusaka Sharks and DE Stars Clubs ready for the Africa Cup of Club Championship which starts this weekend at Lusaka’s Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC).
ZHA coordinator Thomas Mumba said the morale among the two clubs representing Zambia was encouraging.
Mumba said the players have continued to train hard and were disciplined despite coming from home.
“Both the men’s and women’s team are not yet in residential camp. But they remain committed to training,” he said.
He encouraged the teams to have self-belief and not be intimidated by the big names in hockey.
He predicted a tough competition and challenged the teams not to underrate any team.
Meanwhile, Mumba expressed optimism that they will raise the K12, 000 budget deficit before the kick-off of the tournament.
“We have raised K78,000 out of the target budget of K90,000. But we are certain that the budget will be met,” he said.
He said all logistics were in place and that the 17 foreign teams will start arriving in Lusaka on Thursday. The tournament has attracted 19 teams from several countries.
The participating countries include hosts Zambia, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Eygpt, Libya and Zimbabwe.
