GOVERNMENT departments involved in the management of the economy must commit themselves and ensure that measures announced by President Lungu are enforced, says Economics Association of Zambia (EAZ) president Dr Chrispin Mphuka
Dr Mphuka said in an interview that measures announced by the President to boost the economy would change the economic direction once implemented by those in charge of the economy.
He said it was encouraging to see commitment and effort from the President to curb unnecessary expenditure.
“I think it is very good that we are seeing commitment from the highest level to try and curb unnecessary expenditure,
“Our hope is that we can have more commitment at lower level, these are people involved in managing the economy. We can see change in the economy if they implement what the President talked about,” he said.
Dr Mphuka said pronouncements by the resident would be mere rhetoric if Government departments in charge of the economy were not committed.
He however said there were still some doubts as to whether all pronouncements would be carried out.
“They are good pronouncements but there are still some doubts as to whether they will be achieved and taken to the final conclusion,
“We shall wait and see what comes out given the circumstances which the country is in. We actually need those signals for our economy to progress,” he said.
