Monze Central UPND Member of Parliament Jack Mwiimbu has sued Copperbelt Minister and Chimwemwe constituency Patriotic Frot MP, Mwenya Musenge, for defamatory statements published in two online newspapers, Lusaka Times and Zambia Reports.
According to a statement of claim filed in the Lusaka High Court, Mr Musenge is alleged to have uttered the offending remarks at a PF rally attended by numerous representatives of the press at Freedom Park in Kitwe on October 31 this year.
Mr Musenge was alleged to have said in Bemba: “Mube abachenjela no tulonganino tumbi. Nombaline pakati apa pali umo uwaishilemukunjeba MP, neshinalyakwe nshafise iyo waku UPND niba Mwiimbu, Abaishile Mukunjeba ati nabakwata abananobo abalefwaya ukupakanga mortuary mu Nkana West. How can a political party ukupitilakuli Member of Parliament wabo bale tontonkanya ukulaleta mortuary kuno ku Copperbelt?’’
He allegedly added: “Balefyaya balete Satanism kuno. Bale fwaya balete ichinfulunganya muno? Ifwe twalikana naba council talibeba, naba councillors bandi bonse bali chikana. Mukwaiyi Mwiimbu akebe abanankwe bakatwale mortuary kumwake ku constituency kuntu afuma ku Southern Province.’’
Mr Musenge’s words translate in English as: “Be very careful with some organizations; recently there was one MP who came to tell me and I won’t hide, his name is Mwiimbu. He came to tell me that he has friends who want to help build a mortuary in Nkana West. How can a political party going through its MP think of bringing a mortuary on the Copperbelt? They want to bring Satanism here? They want to bring confusion here? We rejected it and we told the council and all my councillors rejected the idea and the residents of Nkana West rejected it. Excuse me, Mwiimbu should tell his friends to take the mortuary to his constituency where he comes from in Southern Province.’’
