ABOUT 140 swimmers are set to compete for honours in the Zamtel Swim Challenge grand finale tomorrow at the 90 days Legacy swimming pool at Lusaka’s Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC).
OYDC programmes manager Johnny Zimba said the grand finale will mark the close of the 2015 Swim Challenge sponsored by Zamtel.
“We have seen so far the participation of provincial athletes; we have had representation from Western Province, Southern and Central provinces. We are expecting a tough competition this time,” he said. He commended Zamtel for their continued support to the Swim Challenge and the centre at large. In all 145 simmers will take part.
“The Swim Challenge from the time it was launched has continued to transform young swimmers into professional swimmers,” he said.
He said the outstanding athletes will be crowned with medals and trophies. In March last year, ZAMTEL launched its two-year Swimming Challenge League worth K1.8 million.
This was aimed at giving kids from around the community a chance to enhance their swimming talent.
