ZAMBIA Army deputy commander Major General Topply Lubaya has implored Super Division side Green Buffaloes football team to aim for top two positions next season.
In an interview in Lusaka, Gen Lubaya said he was happy that the team had tremendously improved despite a rough start this season.
He said the spirited fight that has seen the team storm the 2015 Barclays Cup finals is an expression of a true soldier.
“Last season the team was fighting to survive relegation, which became a worry to us. We talked to them, and this season they have put in their level best.
‘‘But next season, the team should finish either first or second. They should set eyes on qualifying for the continental championship,” he said.
Commenting on the Barclays Cup final against Nkwazi set for November 21, Gen Lubaya said Green Buffaloes had a formidable team that could lift the title.
He said the players need to remain disciplined and committed during training.
“I have faith in the boys. They have proved that it’s a team to reckon with by beating popularly known big league teams. Discipline and hard work will surely pay off. The Barclays Cup is ours,” he said.
And Gen Lubaya said former Chipolopolo captain Christopher Katongo has greatly inspired the team since his return to the Super Division side. “He has really been an inspiration to the team. The boys are encouraged by his achievements and are aiming high,” he said.
Green Buffaloes is placed fourth on 48 points on the premiership log, with one game to be played before the season closes.
