Body builders vie for top honours

THE 2015 Mr Matero Memorial Body Building Championship that was initially set for this Saturday has been postponed to November 21 at Best Western Plus Lusaka Grand hotel.

Matero Gymnasium club secretary Henry Phiri said the decision to postpone was to ensure the successful hosting of the event.

“We decided to change the venue too, from the initial Government Complex to Lusaka Grand hotel because of a complication that arose. But now our eyes are set on November 21. We want to make this event a memorable one as they celebrate 10 years of existence,” he said.

He said the organising committee had raised 80 percent of the targeted budget of K65, 000.

He expressed optimism that all logistics will be in place before the tournament day.

Meanwhile, Phiri said 20 body builders have confirmed participation in the junior category.

He said the musclemen were doing well in training and was expecting tough competition this year.

“We will have the junior and legends category in this tournament.  We want to allow creative competition at this event,” he said.

Three-time former Mr. Zambia champion Lloyd Kyusa is among the legends that will compete at the tournament.

The current Mr Zambia junior Emmanuel Nkonde, Jonas Sikaonga, Leman Mwaanga, Ibrahim Mukupa and Lucas Banda are eyeing the title.
