United Party for National Development (UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema has encouraged young people to turn out in numbers to obtain National Registration Card and Voters Cards for them to participate in next year’s election.
Addressing youths at a UPND rock the vote concert in Lusaka; Mr. Hichilema observed that youths had an important role to play in the electoral process of the country.
He said youths were the majority population hence the need for them to actively participate in the electoral process.
“As you are aware, majority of our people are youths, there for it is important that they register as voters,” Mr Hichilema said.
He said the development of Zambia was in the hands of young people.
Mr Hichilema noted that youths had the power to put in place a leadership that would provide a solution to the current economic challenges the country was facing.
“The future of this country is in the hands of the young generation, therefore it is the responsibility of the youth to step up and make a change by obtaining their NRCs and Voter’s Cards and participate in the electoral process. They have the power to put in place leaders who would provide solutions to the current economic difficulties that the country is facing,” he said.
Mr. Hichilema charged that the PF had failed to address the changes and to meet its obligation to the Zambian people.
“We need change in this country; all Zambians are suffering today because the PF and President Lungu have failed to run the country.
They keep blaming a person for their mistakes which is not fair, they chose to provide leadership for the country and they must provide it. Leadership is not a joke,” he said.
Mr Hichilema said the only way to unseat the PF from power was when more young people registered as voters.
He urged youths to register as voters and vote for a political party that had a vision for the country.
