ZESCO United will be searching for barely a point to bag the fifth MTN/FAZ Super League title when they face Forest Rangers away in a Week 28 fixture this afternoon in Ndola.
After qualifying Zambia to the 2016 Rwanda CHAN tournament last Sunday, George ‘Chicken’ Lwandamina is determined to enrich his curriculum vitae by Zesco United winning the league title back-to-back- again this year. Zesco is leading the table on 63 points while trailing behind is Zanaco on 54 and Power Dynamos with 51.
Lwandamina said the boys were not in panic mode and they will treat the game with the seriousness it deserves.
“The boys are in good shape and targeting a win. We will only celebrate after 90 minutes of play. Forest Rangers are a good side and we will not underrate them. The job is not done yet,” he said.
Forest Rangers coach Kaunda Simonda said he has psychologically prepared the boys for a win this afternoon.
“We are facing a strong team but a win is important in tomorrow’s (today) game. Our aim is to solidify relegation survival at all cost,” he said.
Forest Rangers are placed 10th on 33 points.
Zesco lost 2-1 to Forest Rangers in the first leg this season. This was Forest Rangers’ second win over Zesco, with the first recorded in 2007 by a 2-0 score line.
Power Dynamos are still in contention for a second spot and they aim to dislodge Zanaco. Power Dynamos host tricky Green Eagles at Arthurs Davies Stadium.
Green Eagles will be going into the game without a record of a win over the Tenant Chilumba tutored side.
The two teams have met nine times, with Power recording four wins while the five ended in draws. Zanaco’s target to compete in the Caf Orange Championships will be on test when they host relegation-threatened National Assembly at Sunset Stadium.
In other fixtures, Nakambala Leopards face Nkana while Lusaka Dynamos host Nkwazi. Mufulira Wanderers clash with Nchanga Rangers while Red Arrows will be away at Woodlands Stadium against Napsa Stars.
