PREPARATIONS for the hosting of the Africa Cup of Club Championship by the Zambia Hockey Association (ZHA) in December are on course and the body is scouting for K90, 000 for the cost.
ZHA coordinator Thomas Mumba said the teams that were scheduled to compete at Olympic qualifier tournament in South Africa after failing to raise K60, 000 budget had continued with their training.
Mumba said that the association was now focused on ensuring that it raised K90, 000 to successfully host the tournament in December.
“We already have K40, 000 which was raised with the intention of sending the teams to South Africa” he said.
He earnestly appealed to individuals and the corporate entities to assist in raising the money because failure to host the tournament risked Zambia being banned or fined.
“Our cry to the corporate world is to help us host this tournament. We cannot do it alone. The players need these kinds of competition to improve their play and get motivated,
“It’s always demoralising when the players put their best in training but fail to compete due to lack of financial support,” he said.
He named South Africa, Malawi and Ghana as the countries that have confirmed participation.
