A LOCAL court in Lusaka has ordered a 23-year-old bus conductor to pay K8000 for impregnating a 21-year-old girl.
Senior Court Magistrate Pauline Newa sitting at Matero Local Court ordered Justin Zulu of Matero compound to compensate Grace Mpofu K8000 for impregnating her daughter, Doreen Chalwe. However, Zulu denied making love to Chalwe and said that he did not even know her.
Mpofu told the court that Zulu impregnated her daughter, Doreen but when her family called him he denied responsibility.
In defence, Zulu said that he did not know Doreen and that when he was summoned by her family he was more surprised to learn that he had impregnated her.
But Doreen told the court that Zulu has been her boyfriend since 2012.
She explained that Zulu got her phone and that when she went to get it back on July 9, she slept at his house.
When she conceived she informed him but Zulu refused responsibility claiming he could not have made her pregnant because he had slept with her only once.
She explained that on August 28, she slept at Zulu’s house again and that Zulu told her to abort the pregnancy without informing her parents.
Magistrate Newa noted that Doreen had picked out Zulu as the man responsible for her pregnancy when there were many men out there.
She said that it was evident that Zulu impregnated Doreen and ordered
him to compensate Mpofu with K8000 with initial payment of K1,000 followed by monthly instalments of K500.
