Germany shares and supports the President Edgar Lungu call for more decisive action to fight poverty in Zambia and to speed up the diversification of the economy, says German ambassador to Zambia Bernd Finke.

And Patriotic Front media and publicity vice chairperson Sunday Chanda, has charged that President Edgar Lungu’s State of the Nation address to Zambians through Parliament has re-assured the anxieties created over the past few weeks.

Analyzing President Lungu’s parliamentary speech, Ambassador Finke said Germany stands ready to continue to support Zambia in these endeavours and to assist the country in overcoming the current economic crisis. He said it was important to translate all these good intentions into action, saying the call for more inclusive economic growth in order to fight poverty, the call for a diversification of Zambia’s economy and for better financial management and accountability were being made year after year,  and government after government.

“I have also taken note of President Lungu’s strong commitment to protecting and promoting human rights and the rule of law, especially with a view to guaranteing freedom of expression and assembly and to apply zero tolerance approach in the fight against corruption, what is needed now is a change of paradigm,” he said.Ambassador Finke said concrete steps to breathe life into the many concepts and to make the strategies operational was what was needed at the moment. And in a statement to Daily Nation, Mr Chanda said President Lungu remains unstoppable in his quest for a better Zambia.

“We wish to reiterate that His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu remains unstoppable in his quest for a better Zambia. The State of the Nation Address to Zambians through Parliament has re-assured the anxieties created over the past few weeks,” Mr Chanda said.

He said the clear and strategic sense of direction given by the Head of State on Friday was what Zambia needed beyond fifty years of Independence.

Mr Chanda said the reforms pronounced by the Head of State provided a firm foundation on which the new generations could build dreams of the land of work and joy in unity promised by the forefathers and captured in the national anthem.
