Now Livingstone council suspends Mayor


The Livingstone City Council has suspended its Mayor Milford Maambo for 21 days following his alleged involvement in illegal land allocation.

Mr Matambo’s suspension comes after a special full council which was chaired by his deputy Fred Sikazwe.

When mayor Maambo’s issue came up, Livingstone city council public relations officer Emmanuel Sikanyika requested that the media and the general public leave the council chamber.

And during the meeting, a decision was reached collectively by all councilors and management to form an adhoc committee to investigate Mr Maambo in the alleged illegal land allocation.

Mr Maambo was not allowed to attend the council meeting as the matter which led to the special council meeting concerned him.

According to Mr Sikanyika, Mr  Sikazwe chaired the until a resolution to suspended Mr Maambo for 21 days was reached.

And on Friday UPND Livingstone district executive held a meeting following an allegation that Mr Maambo who was until then a constituency chairman was allegedly involved in illegal land allocation.

It was alleged that Mr Maambo instructed the town clerk Chanda Chabala to sign 18 land offers which he got himself .

Efforts to get a comment from Mr Maambo proved futile by press time as he has been unwilling to talk to the media since the scam was unearthed.
