The Councilor who blew the whistle over the illegal sale of Libala Tennis Court to the Chinese investor has now been suspended from Patriotic Front (PF).
Emmanuael Chanda who is Libala Ward 7 Councilor has been suspended for three months for allegedly bringing the name of the ruling party in disrepute.
But when contacted for a comment over Mr. Chanda’s suspension, Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General Davies Chama told the Daily Nation that in as much as the party respected the decision made by lower organs, the suspended official was free to appeal against his suspension.
Mr. Chanda was also suspended by the Lusaka City Council for exposing the illegal and secret sale of looters land by the council.
At party level, Kabwata Constituency suspended Mr. Chanda from his position of PF vice publicity secretary for the constituency.
According to a letter dated 16th July, 2015 from Kabwata PF constituency chairman Derrick Chansa, the party had suspended Mr. Chanda on allegations of bringing the party into ridicule.
“The disciplinary committee sitting on 16th July, 2015 discovered that you have not responded to allegations leveled against you. Your silence implies you are guilty of the offence. The matter is viewed as a serious one and you have been suspended from the party for three months as contained in article 30 of the party constitution,” the letter read in part.
When asked to comment on his suspension from the party, Mr. Chanda revealed that he was being accused of being a disciple of Rainbow Party leader Wynter Kabimba.
“I am not a Rainbow Party member and I cannot be Wynter Kabimba’s disciple because there is nothing to learn from him,” he said.
Mr. Chanda said those accusing him of joining Rainbow Party were misguided adding that it was not time to create infighting in the ruling party but to build a strong team which would deliver President Lungu to the people of Zambia next year.
He said those linking him to Mr. Kabimba’s Rainbow Party were scheming to hound him out of the PF, but that he would continue supporting President Lungu and the PF government.
“I am not Rainbow and I will never be Rainbow. There is nothing you can learn from Mr. Kabimba. He has nothing to teach me. The PF under Mr. Kabimba as party secretary general saw the most difficult period of its existence. And I therefore state that I am for President Lungu. I will continue supporting President Lungu. I will campaign for him, actually I have already started campaigning for him in my ward,” Mr. Chanda said.
He said it was unfortunate that some senior PF officials in Kabwata Constituency working hand in hand with a named Minister were plotting for his downfall from politics.
“I am aware about all these schemes going on. They are plotting for my downfall. But it is not necessary because I am PF and will continue supporting President Lungu whether I am councillor, district official or constituency official or as a general member.
My loyalty is with President Lungu,” Mr. Chanda said.
But Mr. Chama said he was not aware of the circumstances that led to Mr. Chanda being suspended adding that he was free to appeal against his suspension so that he could be heard by the party.
“The lower organs have the powers to suspend anyone they feel has violated the party constitution and the code of conduct because that is clearly stated in our constitution.
