How many Zambians have been sent to their early graves because of the calumny and hate speech they were subjected to?
We may never know, only God does, but we know the vindictive and heartless nature of some of our citizens who made it their avowed preoccupation to vilify and taint others as criminals, law breakers and societal misfits.
They hid behind hijacked state power to exact all manner of political retribution through the criminal justice system for patently false allegations, whose source were personal financial and material benefit
They remained oblivious and blissfully insular to their own failings, misdeeds and indeed criminal conduct which is only now being revealed because circumstances have changed and their godfathers are no longer there to shield and protect them.
Gone are the days when they could contrive faulty contracts with numerous technical loopholes from which they could steal billions from banks and public authorities.
They are now seen for what they truly are, vile, heartless, narcistic hypocrites. The Bible and indeed the wise have an ample dossier of sayings, which admonish that counting and documenting other people’s sins does not make you a saint.
It has also been said that a hypocrite is more dangerous than a dishonest man. A dishonest man deceives and cheats, and a hypocrite betrays and swindles.
A true hypocrite is the one who ceases to perceive his deception, the one who lies with sincerity.
The Bible puts it even more succinctly when it says:
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin.
But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.
Those who delight and grovel in the suffering of others will themselves tastes the bitter cup, no matter how long it takes, justice will prevail.
That is the order and nature of life.
