ALL political parties participating in the Solwezi West constituency by-election should abide by the Electoral Code of Conduct, the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has advised.
Solwezi District electoral officer Venture Kafula said this when he addressed electoral observers and their candidates, the media and political parties.
He said in line with its mandate, the commission was ready to conduct the by-election but all players to abide by the code conduct.
Mr Kafula appealed to political parties participating in the electoral process to ensure that they conducted violent free campaigns.
Meanwhile, the United National Independent Party (UNIP) and the third liberation movement have confirmed participation in the forthcoming Solwzi west by-election.
UNIP provincial chair lady Mary Katiki told the Daily Nation that her party was ready for the by-election.
“I can confirm that UNIP is participating in the Solwezi west by-election. We have been mobilizing the grassroots,” she said.
And Third Liberation Movement candidate Enock Kikatula expressed confidence of scooping the seat.
Meanwhile, Youth Alliance for Development (YAD) has appealed to the commission to quickly commence the voter education exercise.
YAD executive director Luckson Mulumbi said there was need for voter sensitization to avoid voter apathy.
“Solwezi district and North Western province as whole is known for voter apathy, let the commission start the voter education exercise,”he said.
Solwezi West parliamentary seat fall vacant after the death of the member of Parliament Humphrey Mwanza.
The ECZ has set September 24 as polling date.
