Land is critical for development

SOLWEZI acting district commissioner Chipawa Chipawa says land is a very critical economic resource in development.
Mr. Chipawa said Government believed that when people have access to land and security, productivity would be increased and sustainable agriculture practices would be enhanced.
He noted that Government was aware that land use planning was critical for regional planning and sustainable use of natural resources.
“Planned use of land is not only good for us, it is also good for the future generations as land use today can positively or negatively affect them,” Mr Chipawa said.
He said land use planning begun from grassroot level all the way to national level to ensure sustainable development.
Mr Chipawa said in a speech read on his behalf by district aids coordination Advisor (DACA) Dunstan Sawomba during a land tenure security stakeholders meeting in Solwezi that land access and tenure security on customary land was vital as this would reduce land wrangles.
He said land wrangles are rampant in most parts of the country.
Mr Chipawa said as Solwezi was fast receiving various investments there was need for the local people to have secured access to land.
He reiterated Government’s commitment to ensuring land access and security through formulation and implementation of various policies that safeguard the rights of the Zambian people.
