Two perish in NW Bus accident

A woman and a baby have died while other passengers are nursing serious injuries in road traffic accident involving a Likili passenger bus at Lunga River in Mwinilunga district.
The Likili bus registration number ACZ 2 which was Ndola-bound from Mwinilunga overturned after failing to overtake a Ticklays’ passenger coach.
North-Western deputy Police Commissioner Frank Mumbuna confirmed that the incident happened at 04: 00 hours yesterday.
Mr Mumbuna identified the deceased as Cindy Nakazwe Chanda and her unidentified two- year-old daughter.
He said the deceased woman was an employee at the Mwinilunga West constituency office.
The deputy commissioner said the bus lost control and overturned throwing the deceased and her 19-months old daughter out of the bus.
“After being thrown out of the Likili bus, the deceased were run over by the Ticklays’ bus which was following behind,” he said.
He said out of 35 passengers on the Likili bus 33 are currently nursing serious injuries at Mwinilunga hospital while no one on the Ticklays’ bus was injured.
“The condition of the 33 who were currently in hospital is stable and out of danger,” he said.
He said it was regrettable that lives have been lost in the accident and has urged drivers to adhere to traffic rules in order to avoid such occurrences.
