THE participation of youths in national development using sports cannot be understated, says sports minister Vincent Mwale
Mwale said sports were the right platform from which talented youths could be drawn as they were an important resource that the nation has.
Speaking at the Lynx Football Club inaugural player of the year gala and fund raising dinner held at Lusaka’s Alliance Francais at the weekend, Mwale said his ministry through the sport policy had provided an enabling environment to promote sport and especially community sport.
He however observed that the social football scene in Lusaka had been at a standstill due to poor organisation, lack of commitment and not enough incentives.
He said one of Government’s priority areas was sport partnership and networking among all stakeholders.
He further called on youths to bring about change and have a sustainable and valuable social football league in the city.
The minister also commended Lynx for inspiring youth and less privileged young people in communities, through coaching and other avenues. He said sport world over was rapidly gaining international recognition as an effective tool for national development for achieving development goals.
“In this regard the participation of the youth in this development process cannot be understated,” said Mwale.
He implored Lynx FC to continue to inspire youth and the less privileged young people in communities, through coaching and other avenues.
And Lynx FC first team coach, Choolwe Chibomba thanked Government through the ministry of sport for being part of the night and accepting the invitation at such short notice.
“We appreciate the minister and we are happy with his donation and the kind words he had to say. We believe the project we have started will have a long-term impact in grassroots football and also in encouraging other social sides to follow our model,
“We are really proud of what we have achieved in our first year as a club and will continue to do our part in helping the community and give the youth something to be proud of. We are also thankful to those that have given us support,” said Chibomba
The ‘player of year ‘ award was scooped by Kaunda ’Walleh’ Mushota while the award for the young player of the year went to Gampy Lungu.
