Cartel to be weeded out

GOVERNMENT has already started cleansing State institutions and departments to dismantle and weed out agents of the cartel and criminals that have been plotting regime change in the country so that they could escape retribution and prosecution for the economic and political crimes they committed during the time they controlled State power as surrogates.
Chief Government spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili has revealed that Government was aware that the cartel that almost hijacked State power in the first few years of the Patriotic Front (PF) in Government had become dangerously powerful because they had taken control of all sensitive State institutions.
And Mr Kambwili said Government was aware that some media houses had been conducting workshops on how best to win an election for some political party and advised the opposition political leaders to be wary of the intentions of media houses that were directly supporting and sponsoring political parties.
Mr Kambwili said the PF Government had suffered from a lot of State secret leakages and the wanton stealing of classified Government documents which were being shipped to the cartel leaders within Government at the time because State institutions were heavily infiltrated.
He told the Daily Nation yesterday that President Edgar Lungu’s Government was on top of issues and was going to stop the criminals from actualizing their schemes, warning that there would be political turmoil in the country if the cartel was left to take control of the governance of the nation.
“The criminals that have ganged up against President Lungu and plotting to bring down the PF Government are well known members of the cartel. The cartel became very powerful during the first few years of the PF in Government because they had taken control of critical and sensitive State institutions. Some of the cartel members were in Government and they managed to plant their spies in almost all State institutions and these departments are still infiltrated. But we have done our screening and we have started the cleansing process and we are going to root them out completely because Zambia could easily become ungovernable if such a group of people were ever again allowed to have State power,” Mr Kambwili said.
He disclosed that State institutions such as the intelligence system had members of the cartel who he said were deliberately giving false reports to President Lungu about his Ministers and other Government officials so as to create confusion in Government and compromise the governance system.
Mr Kambwili alleged that some intelligence officers were compiling false reports and deliberately misinforming the Head of State with the aim of creating political consternation so that President Lungu could be seen to be failing to govern and not in control of the system. Mr Kambwili said he felt sorry for some opposition political party leaders who have been recruited by the criminals plotting to influence regime change and were being used to propagate hate speech and propaganda meant to promote a leader closely linked to the clique that attempted to hijack State power a few years ago.
Mr Kambwili said some opposition leaders and civil society organisations were being used by some sections of the media to promote the agenda of a political leader who was a known ally of an egocentric clique whose desire was to take of the governance of the country at all costs.
