PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has taken a swipe at some aspiring candidates for the Solwezi West parliamentary seat whom he has accused of bribing Patriotic Front leadership structures to be adopted.
‘’I know that money has been used to influence people to decide on who would be picked for the race. But what I am saying is eat the money and make your decision, don’t Kubeba.
“If someone gives you the money and tells you vote for me because I am a good person when you know that he is a bad person, just get it and make your decision. So those of you who have given money to people, thank you very much,” he said.
Speaking on arrival at Solwezi airport, President Lungu assured the party members that the PF Central Committee would adopt a candidate of the people’s choice.
‘’Mind you, we are also working as Central Committee to identify a candidate who is going to win because all of us are interested in Solwezi West constituency,” he said.
President Lungu also challenged North Western Province Patriotic Front members to grow the party.
He said the party needed to be grown if it was to reflect the aspirations of the people.
The Head of State said he recently appointed an interim committee headed by Emmanuel Chihili with a sole mandate of mobilizing the party in the province.
“It’s a good mixture of veteran politicians, people who know how to handle the wellbeing and the affairs of a common man. Some of them may be new to PF but they are not new to politics, so I want you to work with them so that you identify the right people to place in leadership of the party so that the party starts responding to the needs of the people,” President Lungu said.
He said the party in the province was still in its infancy and it was for this reason that he had opened the doors to new comers when they deemed fit to join.
And President Lungu said the party had a huge task ahead of the Solwezi by-election.
He said the PF Central Committee would soon select a candidate that would represent the party and there was need to rally behind whoever would be adopted. The President is accompanied by Defence Minister Richwell Siamunene, Justice Minister Dr Ngosa Simbyakula, Lands Minister Christabel Ngimbu and Agriculture Minister Given Lubinda. Others are State House Deputy Minister Mulenga Sata, Lands Deputy Minister Danny Chingimbu among others.
And Dr Simbyakula, who is PF national chairperson, said President Lungu was a president for all Zambians and should be supported so that he fullfils his campaign promises.
And North Western Province chairperson Chihili assured the Head of State that he was going to deliver Solwezi West parliamentary seat.
