UPND’s Siamunene gets Defence

ministryPRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has appointed United Party for National Development (UPND) Sinazongwe Member of Parliament Richwell Siamune as Minister of Defence.
Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda announced the appointment of Mr. Siamunene in a statement released yesterday. Mr. Siamunene, who was until his appointment deputy minister of Transport, Works, Supply and Communication, becomes the first full Cabinet minister from Southern Province to serve in the Patriotic Front (PF) government.
He was first appointed as Commerce, Trade and Industry deputy minister, by former president Michael Sata on 27th February, 2013, a move which angered the UPND who threatened to expel him from the party. In February this year, President Lungu appointed Mr. Siamunene as Western Province minister before he was transferred to the Ministry of Transport, Works, Supply and Communications.
