Former Ajax Cape Town enterprising midfielder finally finds new ‘home’
EX- Ajax Cape Town enterprising midfielder Clifford Mulenga has joined defending MTN/FAZ Super League champions Zesco United.
Clifford was yesterday introduced to his teammates by the Zesco United team manager Mabvuto Banda at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
However, ZESCO public relations manager Katebe Chengo said the team will not disclose the period of his contract.
“I can confirm that he was introduced to the rest of the players this morning. But will we will not state the period of his contract or any other information,” she said.
Mulenga’s season-long deal expired in June and Ajax Cape Town could not retain him after failing to make an impact.
The 2007 African Young player of the year had just a single game in the opening league fixture against AmaZulu last August and made nine substitute appearances.
The 28-year-old has never played for the Zambia national team since he was sent back from the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations by then coach Herve Renard after allegedly partying the night away and breaking the team curfew.
Coach Renard later said that Clifford will never play for Chipolopolo as long as he remained in charge of the 2012 African champions.
Mulenga has played for Pretoria University, Bidvest Wits, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Bloemfontein Celtic and SuperSport United.
