Civil service tests rolled out

GOVERNEMENT through the Public Service Management Division (PSMD) has rolled out the Performance Management System called performance management package for public service workers to assess their performance.
Speaking during the official opening of the five-day workshop for heads of Government departments in Solwezi, Public Service Management Division director (human resource information and planning) Lubasi Sakwila said the system was intended to help objectively evaluate the performance of every public service worker.
“This system has been used even at provincial level, but the Public Service Management Division (PSMD) has just started rolling out the system in all provinces,” Mr Sakwila said.
He said the system was introduced in order to enhance productivity amongst public service workers.
“There was a concern that the public service workers are not doing much as they are supposed to do. And that concern led to the development of the performance management,” he said.
He said despite the development of the system, members of the general public have continued complaining of poor service given by civil servants.
Earlier, North-Western Province deputy permanent secretary Alfred Chingi said the performance management is an important subject and will enhance the performance of the civil service in the province.
