IT WAS a disappointing MTN/FAZ Super League week 19 fixture after the game between ‘Mighty’ Mufulira Wanderers and defending champions Zesco United was abandoned in the first half at Shinde Stadium in Mufulira.
The match was yesterday stopped by referee Gladys Lengwe two minutes after Winston Kalengo scored for Zesco United in the 31st minute.
Lengwe decided to end the match after Mufulira Wanderers fans went amock, throwing objects on the pitch.
The referee first stopped the game for 10 minutes, hoping the situation would normalise but to no avail before she cancelled the fixture. Mufulira wanderers risky their stadium closed by FAZ. Zesco is still commanding the table now on 43 points.
Meanwhile, at Lusaka’s Edwin Imboela Stadium Zanaco beat Lusaka Dynamos 2-0 to move to second position on 38 points, a point better than Power Dynamos.
Zanaco’s stay on second place is under threat depending on Power Dynamos’ result aginst Napsa Stars at Woodlands Stadium today.
The bankers commanded the game but failed to convert chances on target in the first half.
Zanaco could have found the back of the net in the 15th minute but Moses Phiri’s shot was saved by Robert Nyama. Another scoring chance for Zanaco came in the 27th minute but Aubrey Funga failed to convert Phiri’s pass. Henry Banda went for goal in the 36th minute but his thunderbolt shot safely landed in Nsama’s hands.
Dynamos clear chance came in the 38th minute but Conlyde Luchanga failed to beat tough tested goalie Toaster Nsabata.
Zanaco returned in the second half fully fledged, terrosing Dynamos. It was Fackson Kampumbu who broke the deadlock in the 66th minute to put Zanaco ahead.
Eighteen minutes after a hard press, Mathews Macha netted the second goal for Zanaco which demoralised Dynamos.
