A PATRIOTIC Front (PF) ward official has asked the owner of a farm forcibly occupied and sold by cadres not to evict them but to regularise the arrangement at a price.
But the farm owner has refused to agree to the terms.
Farm owner Naz Dodia told the Daily Nation that a group of PF cadres who included Mwembeshi ward chairperson Godfrey Kangwa and some members of his executive had masqueraded as owners of sub-47/sub-B of farm number 873, part of which they allegedly sold without his consent.
Mr. Dodia explained that he was surprised to find that some people had encroached on his land and had started putting up structures.
He said he tried to stop the illegal developers from building on the portion of land but that they refused, claiming that they bought it from the rightful owners who were party officials in Matero.
“I told those people to demolish the structures and leave the place but they refused because they were convinced that the land now belonged to them and that there was nothing I could do about it,” Mr. Dodia said.
He explained that he was compelled to summon Mr. Kangwa to his lodge he obliged .
“Mr Kangwa came in the company of nine others and asked me to allow those who were building to continue. The group offered to pay me for the piece of land which they had sold, to which I objected.
“I told them I did not need any money from them. Actually, I just respected them because I worked with them under the PF and I didn’t want to embarrass them. I would have just asked the police to lock them up. Am giving them some time to stop those who are building, failure to which I will get them arrested because these cadres are becoming a nuisance in Matero,” he said.
A Daily Nation crew that rushed to Wazambi Lodge found a bus of cadres parked metres away from the gate to the premises while the officials were inside the lodge trying to negotiate terms with Mr. Dodia as plain-clothed police officers kept vigil.
But when contacted later on to confirm if it was true that he and other officials had illegally sold private to other people to develop, Mr. Kangwa said he was not aware of anything.
“Yes, am the ward chairman but am not aware of what you are saying,” Mr. Kangwa said before cutting the line.
In a related development Zambia Democratic Party (ZDP) President Tenthani Mwanza has maintained that he was attacked by PF cadres over his land near Buseko where he is building a school.
