GREEN Buffaloes will be looking forward to putting their week 17 woes behind when they take on tricky Power Dynamos this afternoon at the Arthur Davies Stadium in a week 18 encounter which promises to be explosive.
Buffaloes will have to give this game the attention it deserves if they are to avoid losing three games in a line after they were beaten 2-1 by Zesco in week 16 MTV/FAZ league before Green Eagles ran riot in front of their home fans last week to beat them 3-0.
Second-placed Power are basking with confidence after their splendid performance last week that saw them come from a goal down to defeat Lusaka Dynamos 2 – 1 at Sunset Stadium.
Power is obviously planning to pick up their third successive win in Kitwe to stay in close touch with leaders Zesco United.
The Kitwe side has picked up maximum six points in their last two games since losing 0-2 at home to ZESCO on July 9.
Power are currently just three points behind leaders Zesco on 36 from 17 games played with another 13 to go heading into this weekend’s fixtures.
Power head into this weekend’s game hoping to complete a double over 6th placed Buffaloes after beating the army side 2-1 away in Lusaka on May 6 in the first round.
Today’s fixture will also see Buffaloes captain Christopher Katongo play his first game against Power in over 10 years.
Katongo last played against Power in 2004 before trekking to South Africa where he joined Jomo Cosmos.
Katongo brings a lot of history to this game having scored his last goal in the Zambia Premier league against the Copperbelt Energy Corporation-sponsored outfit in a 1-all draw at the Arthur Davies stadium before leaving the country for professional football.
Other games this afternoon will see High Flying Nkwazi takes on Nkana at the Edwin Imboela stadium while National Assembly takes on Mighty Mufulira Wanderers.
Green Eagles will be seeking a continuation of splendid football after last week’s heroic performance against Buffaloes at Woodlands Stadium when they take on NAPSA Stars at the same venue.
Zanaco takes on Nchanga Rangers, a team that is just coming from a loss at the hands of Red Arrows. Zanaco boasts of former Zambia national soccer team mid-field maestro Isaac Chansa who is yet to command his presence on the field ever since he joined the bankers.
Another game that promises to be a mouth-watering encounter is the Forest Rangers-Lusaka Dynamos affair in which Lusaka Dynamos desperately need to pick maximum points. However, Lusaka Dynamos’ form has not been impressive lately.
Forest Rangers have proved to be tough customer at home and Lusaka Dynamos will have to play their cards well to avoid an upset.
Meanwhile, Zesco United would be looking forward to cementing their grip at the summit of the league when they host tail-enders Nakambala Leopards at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
Zesco’s front line looks very sharp and it is no surprise that they have scored a total of 27 goals thus far, better than any other team. On the contrary, Nakambala is in its worst form, having only managed to score a paltry 7 goals.
