…as Simukonda summons 26 for young Elephants
JUNIOR Chipolopolo regroups tomorrow ahead of the return match against young Elephants of Ivory Coast with coach Fighton Simukonda assembling a 26 man team to do the job for the Senegal CAF U23 Championship qualifier next week.
Simukonda made the announcement yesterday saying he needed excellence in the players for them to book a ticket at Senegal CAF showpiece.
Simukonda has retained all the players that featured in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, a week ago.
Red Arrows goalkeeper Kenny Mumba and Kabwe Warriors’ Lawrence Mulenga has also been drafted into the provisional team.
Simukonda said the junior Chipolopolo will have to beat young Elephants for them to book a ticket at Senegal 2015 CAF cup.
“We have to win next week. We have no choice but to deliver. We played well in Ivory Coast but that was not enough as we needed to score. And that is our focus now to win the game and qualify,” said the confident Simukonda.
Those called for camp are Boyd Mkandawire from Napsa Stars, Nkana’s Kapota Kayawe, and Benedict Chepeshi from Red Arrows together with his compatriot Benson Sakala to marshal the defence.
Others in the provisional team are Emmanuel Mbola from Israel, Zesco’s Benard Mapili, and Salulani Phiri from Zanaco and Solomon Sakala from Kabwe Warriors.
In the midfield coach Simukonda wants Mulenga Mukuka of Bloemfontein Celtic of South Africa to showcase together with Jackson Chirwa from Green Buffaloes and Shadreck Malambo of Red Arrows.
Charles Zulu from Zanaco has also been drafted into the team together with John Chingandu of Zesco.
Larry Bwalya of Power Dynamos, Jacob Ngulube of Mufulira Wanderers, Kelvin Mubanga from Power and Lubambo Musonda are all part of the team to face the tricky junior Elephants.
The rest of the team comprises Moses Phiri from Zanaco, Bruce Musakanya from Red Arrows and Noble Rumsey. Patson Daka, Ronald Kampamba, and Friday Samu complete the list. A 1o man Zambia U23 side held Ivory Coast to a goalless draw away in Abidjan in the third and final round of the Senegal CAF U23 championship qualifier played last week after Boyd Mkandawire was red carded.
